Simply awesome! This was feeling that I had after completing my 2nd marathon.
The preparation worked out brilliantly – Maria drove Ray, Peter and I into Lorne and then drove the car in the morning to Apollo Bay. And Peter and myself ran there, whereas unfortunately Ray had to pull out of the whole marathon and only did the half way.
The food component worked really well, the fact that all we had to do in the morning was just stroll to the start line worked well – and then it was just a matter of running without worrying about anything extra.
On the run because Peter was running with me – it also made things a lot more interesting. Every drink stop – in the beginning I slowed down for them – but then after the first couple – I just kept running through – whereas peter who wasn’t carrying any fluids – stopped in but then had to catch up to me. I think in retrospect it would’ve been good to keep my drinks for later on – like at around 39kms I really could’ve used another drink – but I had to wait for the drink stop.
Also got to chat to lots of interesting people along the way – this is where the marathons are fun – you know that going in – the people are pretty serious runners and the atmosphere was really supportive – so that was great.
